Are you paying for snake oil?

Infographics are powerful. David McCandless from Information is Beautiful is a master of using illustration to communicate. The below graphic is a great example, I read through this chart and looked at what my doctor recommends I take compared to his research. My doctor is pretty good according to this chart.

A political lesson you should learn

With all the hoopla about health care, you should learn a lesson from Teddy.

When all else fails, be awesome

When all else fails, be awesome

I’m always tempted to jump into politics, then I realize that a democratic republic is just another way of saying ‘an epic battle to average’.

What a weekend

I love Saturdays with my wife. Over the last five years that we’ve known each other we’ve both grown in so many ways. When we’re old and have white hair I hope we can look back & see that we just kept up the pace of loving each other more and more each year.

Goodbye Austin

austin

It’s 1:18am, and the people in the condo above me are vacuuming—freaking vacuuming! I’m beginning to understand why some people are so enthusiastic about the second amendment </sarcasm>. Anyway, I can’t sleep. So here are some pictures from Austin.

Lessons of the week:

  • Social Networking is important, and doesn’t only happen online.
  • You must care about people before you can expect them to care about you.
  • SXSW is a great event for learning, networking, and getting new ideas.

One of the strangest and most interesting events of the week was getting to have dinner with Dr. Bert Bos, inventor of css.

Gary Vaynerchuk notes from SXSW

This presentation by Gary Vaynerchuk was by far the most engaging and thought provoking of SXSW so far. @garyvee if you read this feel free to re-post it to your blog.

Wired is changing things

multitouch_magazine

It’s clear that a shift is taking place in print media, and a lot of people aren’t going to make the change. Wired won’t be one of those organizations. Today at SXSW they presented an actual tablet running their new digital magazine—awesome. Hoping to get the Resurgence on a similar platform soon.

Some great notes, pictures, and even a tiny video here.

Valerie Casey — SXSW Keynote

Valerie Casey is obviously a genius at bringing people together for her cause. At the same time this talk had a lot of truthiness about environmental facts*.

narrative

*The main examples are her view that melting ice caps increase world-wide earthquakes and her statistics on food subsidies is jacked.
